Lectures to cultivate diverse, public dialogue around Anthropological and
Archaeological research.
The DePaul Open Workshop in Anthropology (DOWiA) is a lecture and workshop series that provides a
space for academics and students to present their latest research to a broader
audience. The goals of the DOWiA are 1) to encourage scholars to present their
work in a way that is accessible to the public, 2) to give students experience
presenting research to a public audience, and 3) to cultivate dialogue between
the public and academic researchers. DOWiA lectures are aimed specifically to present
discussions of ongoing research in the social sciences to an audience that may
not have an academic background, so speakers are encouraged to explain their work in common terms.
DOWiA lectures focus on
Anthropological research, including the subfields of Archaeology,
Socio-Cultural Anthropology, Linguistics, and Physical Anthropology. Within
these fields such topics as protest, gender and sexuality, the politics of
World Heritage Sites, and Museum Collections Research, among others. More
generally, DOWiA lectures are designed to highlight and amplify the role of
Social Science Research in public social, cultural, and political realms.
All lectures are open to the public and will be held on
DePaul's Lincoln Park campus at Arts and Letters Hall, room 307. Future talks will be announced
through future press releases. Additional information available at the website:
